Coco Chanel

"Fashion is not something that exists in dresses only. Fashion is in the sky, in the street, fashion has to do with ideas, the way we live, what is happening."  (Coco Chanel)

Coco Chanel (1883-1971) is one of the most famous fashion designer, and her work changed women's fashion.

She introduced simple, elegant, relaxed, and functional clothes that express the aspirations of women in the Twentieth Century. She borrowed ideas from men's clothes and created clothes for modern women.

"Fashion fades, only style remains the same." ( Coco Chanel)

Coco Chanel fashion is an example of how fashion is used as a way to self express and gives us an insight and essence of what it was life was like in the roaring twenties.

She realised that Women wanted freedom from the constraints society & fashion had placed upon them and challenged the role of women.

She used lots of beads and embroidery to decorate her clothes. This was her vision of how modern women should be, unlike the Victorian era where women were restricted with layers of clothing. This shows how fashion can be a powerful tool of making a statement and used as a way of rebelling against society.
