Examples of different types of Sub Cultures i will be looking at.

Chav
Emo
Goth
Skater
Punk
Rock
Townie
Hip Hop



Subcultures are a group of people with beliefs and behaviors that differentiate them from larger culture to which they belong. The study of subcultures often consists of the study of symbolism attached to clothing, music, make up ects..

Chav    ( Romany chavi  a child)

Chav is an example of fashion being stereotyped. The term "Chav" refrers to  young working class people, aggressive teenagers who repeatedly engage in anti-social behaviour and dress in casual sports clothing.  Another name for this type of fashion is 'townie'. its refers to youths simliar to chavs but without the antisocial behaviour.








Emo  (short for "emotional.")


Emo is lots of different styles of emotionally-charged punk rock. It is also used to decribe an aspects of fashion, culture and behavior.  Emo is usually fashionable among teens and is characterised by tight jean/t-shirts, studded belts, wristbands and long hair (mainly black).  This is an example of how fashion is used as a way of  expressing feelings.





Goth
Goth fashion is stereotyped as a dark and sometimes morbid.  Dyed black hair, dark eyeliner, black fingernails and black period-styled clothing is a characteristic of the goth style. hugely influenced by Elizabethan, Victorian and Medieval period.
this style is very similar to emo however, goths are more about witchcraft, vampires, black magic and Emos are are lovers of poetry.



Skater
Skater  style is all about layering like longsleeves tops under t-shirts, baggy pants and heavy chains dangling from pockets. It is a mixture of punk, metal, and urban fashion styles.



 Punk


Music is a huge influence for punk fashion with bands like Sex Pistols and The Clash they use punk as a way of making a statement. Designers Vivienne Westwood and Malcolm McClaren made punk more commercialized. Punk is about being outrageous with clothes, hair tattoos, jewellery and body modifications.


Hip Hop

Originating from the African-American youth on the scene of New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Philadelphia, the San Francisco Bay Area, Detroit, Atlanta, Jersey City and Miami ect...

The stereotypes of Hip Hop are gangster rap, graffiti and violence.
